1. Who we are

Kidzhood is operated by The NextWay AI Inc. ("we", "us", or "our"), incorporated in British Columbia, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Kidzhood mobile application and website at kidzhood.ca (the "Service").

2. Information we collect

2a. Information you provide

• Account: your name, email address, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — never in plain text).
• Location: your postal or zip code and region, used to show nearby activities and events.
• Child profiles: each child's first name, birth year and month (no full date of birth), and interest categories (e.g. Sports, Arts). These are provided by you as the parent or guardian.
• Google or Facebook ID if you sign in via OAuth (we never receive your Google or Facebook password).
• Support messages: when you contact us, we collect your message, your name, and your email.

2b. Information collected automatically

• Usage data: which activities, events, and camps you view, save, like, or get directions to. Used to personalise recommendations and compute popularity scores.
• Device information: your push notification token (if you opt in), device platform (iOS/Android), device model, and OS version.
• Location: with your permission, your GPS coordinates are used in-app to show nearby results and calculate distances. GPS coordinates are not stored on our servers — only your postal/zip code is saved to your profile.
• IP address and user agent: logged on support ticket submissions for security and fraud prevention.
• Usage metrics: session count, minutes used, and active days — collected locally on your device and included if you submit a support ticket.

2c. Payment information

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number or CVV. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID to manage your subscription status.

2d. Firebase Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to track app events such as screen views, feature taps, signup method, subscription status, and number of children in your profile. This data is aggregated and used to improve the app. Firebase Analytics does not share your personal information with advertisers.

3. How we use your information

• To show you relevant activities, events, and camps based on your location and your children's ages and interests.
• To generate AI-powered "Plan My Day" itineraries personalised to your family.
• To send push notifications you have opted into (event reminders, plan reminders, weekly highlights).
• To send transactional emails (email verification, password reset, account deletion confirmation).
• To process and manage your subscription via Stripe.
• To respond to your support requests.
• To improve and debug the Service using aggregated, anonymised analytics.
• To compute popularity and trending scores for listings (using anonymised interaction counts).

4. Children's privacy

Kidzhood is not directed at children under the age of 13. Only adults (18+) may create accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

Child profiles — including a child's name, birth year and month, and interests — are entered by the parent or guardian account holder. This information is used solely to personalise activity recommendations and is never shared with third parties for marketing or advertising.

We comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact privacy@kidzhood.ca and we will delete it promptly.

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as follows:

• Service providers who help us operate the Service (listed in Section 6). They may access data only to perform services on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or others.
• Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance.

We do not share your children's profile data, your interests, or your favourites with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

7. Data storage and international transfers

Our servers are hosted by Render in the United States. By using Kidzhood, you consent to your personal information being stored and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country or province of residence.

All third-party providers listed in Section 6 are also U.S.-based. We take reasonable steps to ensure they maintain appropriate security standards for your data.

8. Data retention

• Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active.
• When you delete your account, your personal data (email, name, child profiles, favourites, plans) is permanently deleted within 30 days, subject to any legal obligations that require us to retain it longer.
• Aggregated, anonymised analytics data (e.g. interaction counts) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be used to identify you.
• Support ticket records are retained for up to 2 years for legal and operational purposes.

9. Your rights

All users

• Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: update your account information at any time from Profile in the app.
• Deletion: delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent after a 24-hour cooldown.
• Notification opt-out: turn off any notification type at any time from Profile → Notifications.

Canadian users (PIPEDA / BC PIPA)

• You have the right to access and correct your personal information held by us.
• You may withdraw consent for certain uses of your data at any time, subject to legal or contractual limitations. Withdrawing consent may limit your ability to use certain features.
• You may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) if you have concerns about how we handle your data.

California users (CCPA / CPRA)

• You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
• You have the right to request deletion of your personal information.
• We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. You therefore have no need to opt out of a sale.
• We do not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including bcrypt password hashing, HTTPS for all data in transit, and access controls on our database. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

In the event of a data breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and, where required, the relevant regulatory authority (such as the OPC) as soon as reasonably possible.

11. Cookies and tracking

The Kidzhood mobile app does not use browser cookies. We use AsyncStorage on your device to cache activity listings and store your session. We use Firebase Analytics for app event tracking as described in Section 2d. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
